Prerequisites

According to AWG's army.mil page (now taken down), "Assessment and Selection takes place at Fort AP Hill, Virginia. The course lasts seven days and is offered twice a year, in March and September. The course is 75 percent mental and 25 percent physical. Events: Pass a standard APFT and be IAW AR 600-9 HT/WT standards. The course is scenario-based, but the candidate must come prepared to walk 7 to 10 miles per day while carrying a 30- to 35-pound daypack, as well as undertake some other light-to-moderate physical activities. A Psychological test and/or interview will be administered during the course. Commander’s Board (candidate will be informed as to the results of the Board at that time)."

Organization/Jobs

AWG has 5 squadrons, each name being a nod to the WW2 phonetic alphabet (Confirmed by AWG Easy Sqdn Commander)

AWG is similar to CAG in the way that it recruits any MOS and doesn't have its own MOS series, the idea is that soldiers will bring the skills/expertise from their MOS and use it to assist AWG in development of advisory solutions. The only completely public information about AWG's inner squadron structure is that they are commanded by a lieutenant colonel and are further divided into troops, commanded by majors. However, we can gain more information by inferring based on photos of AWG and what would make sense for the unit from a big army standpoint. In the image, notice how there are two units, "AWG 319" and "AWG 317" (labelled team 3 and team 2 respectively). This likely means the bottom operational element of AWG has a naming system similar to that of an ODA. The first number is likely the squadron, "3" in this case would be Charlie Squadron, the second number is likely the troop, "1" meaning troop 1 (unfortunately I don't know how many troops are in a squadron, but it's safe to assume there are at least 3), and finally the third number likely means the specific team under the troop, which are made up of by at least 6 soldiers.

AWG Breifing

Firearms

  • Colt M4A1 Block 2
  • Beretta M9
  • Glock 19
  • ACOG RMR (Most common optic, some other optics have been seen but very few)
  • Remington 870
  • Likely more, this is just all that i've seen
  • Gear

For a unit like AWG, i'd guess they can probably use nearly whatever gear they want so long as they buy it themselves or it isn't a $40,000 dollar pair of gpnvgs, but here is some of what i've seen:

    Tactics

AWG develops plans/solutions to counter emerging threats, they also train and disseminate those plans, nothing really that crazy going on here. They definitely don't do direct action.
